“Speaking in Tongues,” is all about voice(s)–in our heads, bartering for our souls, messing with our minds, silencing our questions with dogmatic untruths. Denise Kodi writes with such a fresh voice, clearly her own. It leads us forward with humor and curiosity while underneath we feel the dark danger of trust flayed open and innocence sacrificed. I’m glad she speaks her truth. Looking forward to reading “Blessed” and learning about a world I already feel lucky to have dodged.
Impressed with the character development and honesty in DeWan’s “Blog of the Last Man on Earth.” I love the idea of a blog, though there is no one around to read a web log, and the (d)evolution of the blog as time passes.
Digging the orgasmic, triumphant ending of DeWan’s story.
The tone/voice of the Dewan’s “Blog” is excellent. It is perfectly convincing, delightfully comical and pulls me right to the end. I also think the mention of the cheek “black hole” is well done. It adds just enough closure to the story without over-explication of “WHAT HAPPENED.” I think it is brilliant and moving.
Love Christopher DeWan’s “Blog of the Last Man on Earth.” The author manages to make impending oblivion simultaneously touching and funny. To quote the Last Man, “I can’t explain why, but when I [read] it, it made me feel happy to be alive.”
