“Small doses of strychnine
can be used to cure paralysis.
So can large doses of aspirin and wine.
Displacement of weight on a bed of nails
prevents internal injury.
As can be witnessed by the resting heart rate.
There’s enough creation to go around.”

The Meet me at the Monkey Bars short made me smile….. It reminded me of my own crazy thought process…. Loved it!
Enjoyed the piece by Strother K. Hall. Humor mixed with honesty–good combination.
Absolutely loved “Meet Me a the Monkey Bars”. It puts you in mind of your own pre-pubescent shortcomings, as they move into the awkwardness of adulthood. I’ve been there, including once accidentally nearly drinking a bee while trying to talk to a young girl near the swing set (also, as a young boy). Now I’ll be laughing about that all day. Thanks, Strother.
Meet Me at the Monkey Bars was a cute story. It took me back to my kindergarten days when I conned a little boy into giving me a kiss on the cheek for a French fry.
Meet me at the Monkey Bars is so funny–took me back for a moment to elementary. Loved the ending–awesome.
I like the new homepage. Clean and edgy, like the content.
Meet Me at the Monkey Bars was a refreshingly fun story that made you laugh and feel uncomfortable all at once. I loved it.
I loved all the works! A Gerund Life was great – I don’t know who Arlene Vasquez is but her polyester pants made me laugh. You gotta love Linda Rondstadt’s nipples and the elevator of the Ahmanson in one poem. So much lusciousness throughout!
Meet Me at the Monkey Bars was an entertaining and quite humorous short story. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Quite enjoyed Meet Me at the Monkey Bars. Recalling a child’s sensibility with an adult’s outlook and vocabulary? I was definitely a fan. And you get a whole picture of a person in only a few paragraphs. If his bio is accurate, he needs to get back to those unfinished projects, because he’s got skill.
I love Donavon Davidson’s poem. It has a haunting quality that keeps it bubbling up through my thoughts. Well done! Also, great cover photo.
Thoroughly enjoyed “Meet Me at the Monkey Bars”. It beautifully captured the innocence of youth and the awkwardness of adulthood.
Another solid issue. I particularly liked “Meet Me at the Monkey Bars” by S.K. Hall, an awkward and strange little take on unrequited romance.
A great read…”Meet Me at the Monkey Bars” leaves a wonderful nostalgic feeling…give us some more SKH!
“Meet Me at the Monkey Bars” was an adorable way to honor a treasured childhood memory. Good stuff!
Good issue, but I, like most of the other commenters, was particularly fond of the entry by SK Hall. “Monkey Bars” is a lighthearted, funny piece of confessional writing, short and sweet. It’s the perfect length yet leaves you wanting to read more- a hard feat to accomplish!
I enjoyed “Meet Me at the Monkey Bars” and hope to get to read more of Hall’s work in the future.
Loved “Meet Me at the Monkey Bars” … somehow that train of thought didn’t seem strange in the least to me.
To everyone who commented on “Meet Me at the Monkey Bars,” I truly appreciate your kind words, encouragement and support. Thank you for reading it, and I hope you’ll continue following Crack the Spine.
